This is a tip that one of the Diplomatic Hotel’s employee passed on to us. A visit not to be missed is the Museum of Pasado Cuyano, a real window to the history of the region of Cuyo. Precious objects testify what every day life was like in Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja in the nineteenth century.
The Museum of Dr. Edmundo Correas “Pasado Cuyano” was inaugurated on May 24, 1967 as a place needed to make visible the regional history of the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja, whose study is bound specifically by the Board of Historical Studies of Mendoza. The Museum occupies the building that belonged to Don Francisco Civit, former governor of Mendoza, and was declared a National Historic Landmark on 12 November 1970.
In total, the museum occupies sixteen rooms and four patios. When walking down museum’s premises, history seems to be recreated in different environments that evoke certain moments of Colonial history. Antique furniture, paintings, documents and objects of use are some of the elements that transport visitors to the nineteenth century.
In addition to living history, objects that inherited descendants and relatives of the original owners are being carefully taken care of. All these objects have valuable evidence of the past for researchers of the current and future generations.
Among the rooms present at the Museum, you can find the Archaeological Room, Mendoza’s Oil Room, Religious Hall, Cuyo’s Room, and the Room of Weapons, among others. Also, special halls are also dedicated to the unitary and federal parties, the Hall of Independence, the Civil Governor’s Hall, and the most important and popular one is a room dedicated to the Liberator General Jose de San Martín, where you can see an exact replica of his curved saber.
It should also be noted that in the museum there is a library whose background consists of over 5,000 volumes and has valuable periodicals, as well as an important file of documents of Mendoza’s facts and figures.
When visiting Mendoza, we recommend going to the Museum of the Past Cuyano to know the roots that shaped the people in these latitudes of Argentina.
Regarding Mendoza’s accommodation there are many good options such as the Diplomatic hotel. The Diplomatic hotel counts with high-standard services for the most exigent tourists. Rooms in Diplomatic hotel are very comfortable and big and have state-of-the-art technology. Personnel staff at the Diplomatic hotel are highly qualified and professional. The Diplomatic hotel is certainly the best choice for a relaxing and unforgettable stay in Mendoza.
